     pilot truck stop has a universal black out curtains.they have hooks and it is real easy to put up and down.i did not think i would like them,but they are great.they cost 36 dollars and they just roll up when done,buy the one piece set,the 2 piece set lets in light.i am sure other truck stops have them.

   When my son was 5 he has chicken pox and we took him to the doctor for some treatment. Inside the room was the doctor, some nurses, myself, my husband, my sister, and my mother.      That's one of the FIRST things that they teach you in the medical feild is to provide privacy to the patient. So yes that was very much out of line and I would have said something.

     I would build it out of 3/4 or 1" pvc piping. it is light, strong and easy to put together with 90 45 and T fittings. with heat you can even curve it.

   Beaded curtains instead of something with more privacy?
   I'm moving into a second floor apartment and I really want to make my 2 daughters' room look girly and funky. I figured because it's the second floor, It should be ok and not a big deal concerning privacy?

     You're going to need the privacy. At night, with lights on you can see everything. Daughter lives on 2nd floor appartment.

     I like those beads. If you can't use for windows, use them as wall hangings. Would look cool that way too.

     You could put shades up and the beads over the shades. May be you could get shades in different colors. You'd have to look.

All that was in the room was the doctor, a few nurses, my parents, and my aunt.

     I think that most hospitals would have atleast had the respect to have done this. I would have also thought that this would have been where your parents would have stepped in and taken the role to step up and tell them to do this or atleast ask others to leave the room.

    I'm moving into an apartment and I want a curtain to divide the larger room into two separate areas. Since I can't drill holes into the wall, are there products available that don't need wall mounts to hang a curtain?

      I would suggest a Shoji Screen. I have 3 (they can be had for under 0 each if you shop around).

      I move them around for different uses, such as placing them around the futon in the living room to provide some privacy when we have guests sleeping over, etc.

      They come in amazingly handy and come in lots of different styles.

    Wind blew wood fence dn. Privacy CURTAIN around a deck, similar to hospital curtain. It exists?
    Previous owners had a privacy wall around a hot tub. Tub gone,walls were nice, but 2 years running, wind blew it down. 2nd year, fix and strengthened it, but wind STILL knocked it down. Given up. IS there a temp/perm curtain that can be erected around posts or something that would give us privacy for new tub (when we get one)? Similar to hospital curtain idea? (but no ceiling to install into) So for those super windy days, we just retract it and it won't fall down. So far, 'searches' find dead end ideas. Open to DIY or installed ideas. Also would like to work from existing outer end posts of existing deck of former walls. Any information/ideas greatly appreciated.
    correction: around the deck.. not around the posts. Just from post to post around a hex type deck.
    The length goes around 4 former panels (made of 18 boards)[4-5 feet long, can't find measuring tape] plus the 'other side' door/gate panel so it would need support, BUT we would perfer to try to be able to somehow pull the curtain as one long pull just AS a hospital curtain pulls in one motion around a bed. Rather than only from one post to the next, assuming that at each 'joint' of the hex will be a post. WONDERING, can a hospital pull be mounted sideways on a long pole that would go from the constrictive length of rod/pole that sits on each joint post? and just pull it in one continuous motion... sideways/on its side? to hang out THEN down? or would that be too much pressure on the traveling wheels?

      You could install a pole similar to a shower rod and use an outdoor fabric to make curtains. Use grommets at the top to make holes in the fabric with shower curtain hooks to hang it, or make it a tab top and use velcro to close the tabs so you can easily remove the fabric to wash, or to take down for the cooler months. I've seen copper piping used for the pole before if you want a trendier look.

    Curtains/ privacy Shades for my car?
    Does anyone know where I can buy back window curtains or shades for my car so no one can see in. Also I'd like to have shades or curtains on my car windows ( only back/front side windows) so that i can see out but no one can see in. Any suggestions where i can find something like this?

    I found some great ideas about how to make a room romantic. I would like some ideas about insulating sounds in a room. My bedroom has wooden floors and the door is slanted with a space on top. Gives little privacy. Except for large curtains do you all have any good ideas?

      Soft things absorb sound....pillows, carpets, area rugs...and hard things bounce sounds.....wood, glass, metal. So try to incorporate more soft things into your room.
      For the space over your door, cut a piece of wood to the shape opening, nail it in, and paint it the same color as the walls.
      If it's too difficult for you to do this with the wood and nails, there is a not as great shortcut that will look pretty good: cut several pieces of corrugated cardboard in the exact shape of the opening, glue them together to make one thick piece, glue it into the opening, and paint it the same color as the wall. This should give you pretty much the same look as the wood once it's painted. It should also give you more privacy and sound insulation. : D

      Almost any type of panel drapery will work. The blinds are a neutral that will work with almost any fabric. The combination of draperies and the blinds will add another layer of interest, dimension, and texture to the window.

      Try a one-way view window film. You can get it at home improvement stores like Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, Walmart, etc. It's fairly inexpensive
      These just squee-gee onto damp glass, then you smooth out any bubbles. When you want to remove the film, you lift up a corner and pull it off.

      You could also try Roman blinds, which are also fairly inexpensive.

    What are the basics of hanging curtains?
    I don't know how to hang curtains. I was told I would need a power drill, but I don't know how to use one and I would have to borrow it from someone. I'm a little intimdated by the process because the only tools I've ever used are screwdrivers and hammers.

    Here's my situation: I have 3 floor-to-ceiling windows in my apartment with vertical blinds but I want to have curtains over the blinds as well for privacy concerns. I have 0 in gift cards to Pier 1 so I would like something I can buy there and I also have a young cat so I don't want anything she can destroy too easily.

    Help, how do I do this? The more detail, the better!

      use the fasteners on the vertical blinds as your points to make sure the finished product is level. if you know how to use a level that is just insurance but you can eye ball it or measure it with a tape if you want. ou don' t have to use a power drill, its just makes it a bit easier for the starter holes on the screws. You could hammer a nail in and pull it out to get it started or forget it all together and just screw them in without it completely. People do it all the time.
      1. screw the wall attachment to the wall.
      2. slide the curtains onto the rod.
      3. attach your rod to the wall fasteners. and enjoy.

    How do you tie back curtains without a wall to screw into?
    I have a front room that is more like a three seasons' room and it has windows across three of the walls with no break in between. I have sheers on the outside and chocolate brown on the inside for privacy. In the warmer months I'd like to tie back the curtains to allow more light in but there isn't a place I can screw traditional tie backs into? I need more of a free hanging tie back, looking for ideas because I can figure out how to make it.

      here are 3 methods you can use all are inexpensive solutions .
      1 as you have continues windows make up some tie backs that will fit like this right end and middle end tie together.
      middle end right and right window tie together .
      then the right end and the left end single curtains a single tie back each with a string attached then allow it to be a hooked on to the stop ends so effectively you have one curtain then two then two again then one.
      hope you can understand what i am saying there .
      2/ get some stick on hooks and the use your tie backs the traditional way.
      3/
      putting stop ends on the ends of each pair of curtains on the rail but behind the last runner using some string attach to the tie back and the stop end you can decide how long the string is so it gives you a pulled back drape effect .
      sorry if this sounds complicated but its really not i have done this myself very effectively

    I've recently started going to the public pool, and the men's locker room showers are all out in the open, but yet I hear that the women's locker room has privacy curtains.

    I am just curious why they would have it set up all out in open like for men, but they feel the women should have privacy, like it's a big deal to them. What's the difference?

      There isn't. And if you fell uncomfortable you should bring it up with the manager or the person in charge of the pool. It really can't be that hard to install.

    What type of curtains should I sew?
    3/4 the way up my stairs there is a landing and you can either go left up to the bedrooms or right up to the bonus room. The bonus room does not have a door on it and I would like to hang some type of curtain to give our guests some privacy. The majority of the time it is an office and we don't want it to be closed off. From ceiling to the bottom step is about 11-12 feet. What type of curtain could I make which would give privacy but also be pulled up easily.

    I would prefer fabric and I would like to steer away from a plain panel which would need to be pulled to the side. Also helpful info - I have about 8 inches between the ceiling and opening for the stairs.

      Blinds made out of fabric might be your best choice. Blinds have a lot of unique ways to be made and offer attractive alternatives for you to choose from. When not in use, they can be drawn all the way up or down a portion of the way.

      I suggest blinds because you don't have to worry about the 8" space. The blinds would be able to be lowered all the way down infront of the step when in use and will not be of concern when they are raised.

      If you need to "hide" the blinds from view when they are in the up position, you could use a valance or "top treatments" to cover up the hardware.

    Why are they so expensive and hard to find just the right kind?!?
    I need to cover our huge windows in the living & dining room. Who was present in the room was my husband and I, my twin sister, my mother, the dr., and various nurses. My son asked me why they did not use privacy curtains during the alcohol bath and rectal temperature. At the time he was not really offended by not having privacy curtains around him and now he is 20 and wishes he had them at the time. Would privacy curtains had been appropriate at the time his naked body and naked butt was exposed. In the long run my husband and I were thankful that they cured our son.

    What color curtains should I get to match my light blue and white walls and gray furniture?
    I like my privacy, but would be open to a light curtain fabric.

    • ANSWER:
      Sounds like you have a very neutral color scheme going. Is there an accent color that you are using that catches the eye? You want your curtains to stand out but not necessarily grab all the attention.

      Perhaps you could do shades down....have the majority of the curtain the color of the furniture, only 2 shades darker, and then perhaps 2 to 3 feet of the bottom of the curtain could be the blue of the wall, again 2 to 3 shades darker. This look is best when it goes all the way to the floor. If you don't want that style you could make the gray stripe in the middle with blue on top and bottom, or vice verse if you like, and have it be the length of the window.

      This is of course assuming that you sew. It's not a difficult process by any means. You don't even have to go buy fabric. Get premade curtains in the colors you like, then simply cut and sew together with a straight line stitch on a machine. Takes about 2 mins! Everything is already hemmed.

      If you don't want to go with your current colors and haven't picked out any accent colors, I would suggest deep teals or a burgundy color. A lavender with a gray base would be nice, and so would black, but in moderation.

      Don't forget that you can layer too. Have a heavier outer curtain and a lighter sheer in the middle. This would allow you to layer colors, go for deeper colors and still get the light that you want.

      As for privacy, I like being able to see out when I want to, but don't want people to be able to look in. I also like modern design. If you make frosted stripes on your window, just one big thick one in the middle, you get that modern look, the light, the privacy, and you can still see out. You can use frosted contact paper, or even buy the frosting in the can. Cheap and easy to do and looks great!

    I am moving into a new house and I need some type of curtain to separate my room from my sisters. We all have to share the upstairs, which has an open layout. If my sisters want to use the restroom upstairs they have to come through my room to use it.     I have a very big sliding-glass door in the breakfast-nook/kitchen/great-room concept area of my home.

    I really dislike the look of vertical blinds and am bored with curtains. I currently have plantation shutters on my windows and really enjoy the clean look it creates.

    Any ideas for a nice privacy/sun screening type of covering?

    How do I create a cheap 'privacy room' for my tanning bed in my basement?
    I have a tanning bed in my unfinished basement. I am looking for a cheap alternative to building walls around it for privacy. I have thought of a few 3-panel room dividers or maybe putting up a few shower curtains around it to make a makeshift room. Any suggestions? It is in a corner in my basement.

46. QUESTION:
    i need the most privacy i can get without installing a permanent door. What can i use?
    so i'm living in a basement. to get to it you have to go down stairs. i need something to hang and cover the bottom of the stair case, like a door, but i cant have anything permanent. it also cant be blocked off, because of fear of a fire hazard. i was looking at bamboo curtains but they don't provide the privacy i want. any ideas?

You can even set it to latch if your in there. Or get an inexpensive bookcase and put wheels under it. Make sure the items you have on there are secure.

      Use awning material for the top in a scallop design and slope away from the house. I used pvc pipe to go around my patio,and netting for my curtains- which hung on the pipe- held up by wire. Arrange the furniture in the middle of the room with plants on the outside.

    what plants grow fast and tall for a privacy or sun barrier?
    it cheaper than building a wooden fence for privacy and when spring comes, it just blasts hot sun in my windows, but i like the windows and curtains open. i want some plants that i can plant soon to grow about 5 feet high in a few months time. bamboo, cattails, ? ? thank you

      Consider using vines grown on a lattice or trellis structure. You can do this either in large containers or in ground. Hops is a hardy/perennial vine that grows very fast, 30 feet in one season. Morning Glories, Moon Flowers or even Cucumbers will also provide screening when the weather warms up. Virginia Creeper is a woody vine that has great red fall color

    I have light blue in my living room and a bay window. What color should I use for my curtains?
    I have this bay window facing a busy street which calls for privacy especially at night. I am to the point of hating bay windows because I don't know what to use on it. Can I use cafe curtains? My windows are the crank out type so that rules out wooden shutters. Any suggestions before I use a sludge hammer on the window?

      When I was younger, I really wanted a canopy bed with pretty curtains that I could close for privacy. But you know what? Now that I'm older and in charge of my own home, I see the canopy and curtains as just something else to CLEAN!!

      But if you like curtains, by all means, have them!
